1. Sonoran Bloom
I'm a big proponent of preventative medicine rather than curative medicine. If some future medical problem can be prevented by doing something that you have control over, I'm all for it. That's why it's so important to eat a healthy diet, exercise, and take a high quality daily nutritional supplement. Protecting our cells and the systems that protect us, in my estimation, is critical. One such system is the immune system.
In a report from Brazos Minshew, TriVita's Chief Science Officer, he says that "our immune system uses heat to destroy invading bacteria. A specialized cell called a macrophage douses the invader with inflammatory enzymes (like acids) and the heat generated in this battle destroys the invading bacteria."
"Sometimes our own healthy cells become the focus for disease. This often happens because of toxic exposure. When we eat, drink or breathe a toxin, or if it is absorbed through our skin, our detoxification system works to remove it before the poison can compromise our health. Unfortunately, many of today's poisons are simply too strong and they overwhelm our detoxification system and enter healthy cells. These cells now become the target of disease, infection and inflammation. Our immune system must treat them as hostile and use heat to destroy them."
"Autoimmune diseases arise when our immune system becomes so overworked that it can no longer tell the difference between healthy cells and sick cells. It attacks all cells of a particular type equally. This body system is never able to heal and chronic inflammation sets in." [1]
After further review of the immune system, autoimmune disorders, and inflammation, I've found this information on the Medline Plus web site, a service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
An autoimmune disorder is a condition that occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys healthy body tissue. There are more than 80 different types of autoimmune disorders.
Normally the immune system's army of white blood cells helps protect the body from harmful substances, called antigens. Examples of antigens include bacteria, viruses, toxins, cancer cells, and foreign blood or tissues from another person or species. The immune system produces antibodies that destroy these harmful substances.
But in patients with an autoimmune disorder, the immune system can't tell the difference between healthy body tissue and antigens. The result is an immune response that destroys normal body tissues. The response is a hypersensitivity reaction similar to allergies, where the immune system reacts to a substance that it normally would ignore. In allergies, the immune system reacts to an external substance that would normally be harmless. With autoimmune disorders, the immune system reacts to normal body tissues.
What causes the immune system to no longer distinguish between healthy body tissues and antigens is unknown. One theory holds that various microorganisms and drugs may trigger some of these changes, particularly in persons who are genetically prone to autoimmune disorders.[2]
Minchew explains more about toxins and there affects on the immune system.
"When a toxin overwhelms your detoxification process it will likely settle in your weakest system. The immune system melts these polluted cells in an effort to save healthy cells. This is acute inflammation. With chronic toxicity comes the opportunity for chronic inflammation. In the case of chronic inflammation, the immune system attacks any sick cell as well as any healthy cell that looks like the sick one. If the immune system attacks connective tissue we say a person has lupus. If it attacks the beta cells of the pancreas we say they have type 1 diabetes. If it attacks the joints we say they have rheumatoid arthritis.
How do we treat an autoimmune disorder? Medical professionals basically determine the proper procedure. However, Minchew says that "we simply must reduce our toxic exposure to reduce the chances of developing an autoimmune disorder. And we must also develop emotional coping strategies and have all of the nutrients we need in our body in the right quantity - every moment of every day."
On the medical side of the equation, and according to the Medicine Plus web site, treatments can be as simple as using supplements, or as drastic as blood transfusions.
The goals of treatment are to reduce symptoms and control the autoimmune process while maintaining the body's ability to fight disease. Treatments vary widely and depend on the specific disease and your symptoms.
Some patients may need supplements to replenish a hormone or vitamin that the body is lacking. Examples include thyroid supplements, vitamins, or insulin injections.
If the autoimmune disorder affects the blood, the person may need blood transfusions.
Measures to help with movement or other functions may be needed for autoimmune disorders that affect the bones, joints, or muscles.
Medicines are often prescribed to control or reduce the immune system's response. Such medicines may include corticosteroids and immunosuppressant drugs such as cyclophosphamide or azathioprine.[2]
I don't know about you, but if we can prevent our bodies from contracting this disorder, I'm all for it. With that said, and something (prevention) I believe in, I'd rather follow Mr. Minchew's advice. "We simply must reduce our toxic exposure to reduce the chances of developing an autoimmune disorder. And we must also develop emotional coping strategies and have all of the nutrients we need in our body in the right quantity - every moment of every day."
To me, that sounds like a better option, to "have all of the nutrients we need in our body in the right quantity - every moment of every day."
One way to do get a the nutrients our bodies need is to take a high quality daily nutritional supplement, and drink TriVita's Sonoran Bloom Nopalea® on a daily basis. Combining these two products work wonders to keep your body in top physical shape, right down to the cellular level. Start on the road to preventing unwanted diseases today. 2. Omega Prime
Omega-3 fatty acids found in fatty fish such as tuna and salmon may protect against progression of age-related macular degeneration, but the benefits appear to depend on the stage of disease and whether certain supplements are taken, researchers say.
Age-related macular degeneration is a chronic eye disease marked by deterioration of tissue in the part of your eye that's responsible for central vision. The deterioration occurs in the macula (MAK-u-luh), which is in the center of the retina — the layer of tissue on the inside back wall of your eyeball.
Macular degeneration doesn't cause total blindness, but it worsens your quality of life by blurring or causing a blind spot in your central vision. Clear central vision is necessary for reading, driving, recognizing faces and doing detail work.[1]
The researchers calculated intakes of docosahexaenoic acid and eicosapentaenoic acid from dietary questionnaires administered to 2,924 men and women, ages 55 to 80, participating in an eight-year supplement trial, the Age-Related Eye Disease Study of the National Eye Institute. [2]
The trial results suggest taking supplements of antioxidants plus zinc prevents progression of late-stage AMD. [2]
The results, which are published online ahead of print in the British Journal of Ophthalmology, are in a report from researchers at the Laboratory for Nutrition and Vision Research, and Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University.
Eating two to three servings of fatty fish such as salmon, tuna, mackerel, shellfish, and herring every week would achieve the recommended daily intake of docosahexaenoic acid and eicosapentaenoic acid.
However, the majority of the study participants participants and Americans eat a much lower level than recommended.
":If changing dietary habits is not easy, supplementation is an option," says corresponding author Chung-Jung Chiu.
As a matter of fact, the American Heart Association (AHA) also recommends eating fish, high in omega-3 fatty acids, at least 2 times a week. However, it's advised that pregnant women, nursing mothers, young children, and women who might become pregnant not eat several types of fish, including swordfish, shark, and king mackerel. These individuals should also limit consumption of other fish, including albacore tuna, salmon, and herring. They can take omega-3 fatty acids in quality dietary supplements that are certified mercury-free by a reputable third-party lab, like TriVita's Omega Prime.
Omega-3 fatty acids are essential to human health but cannot be manufactured by the body. For this reason, omega-3 fatty acids must be obtained from food or through supplementation. One daily dose of Omega Prime provides the amount of Omega-3 recommended by the AHA for healthy individuals, as well as for those who have heart disease or the risk of it.
The AHA has already proven that omega-3 fatty acids is important to a healthy heart, but now, it seems that there is some evidence to back up the the facts that omega-3 fatty acids also help people suffering from age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Prevention may be your best medicine. With all the great supplements on the market, it doesn't make sense for anyone to suffer for diseases that can be prevented. There are many different types of inflammation. However, the two most common types of inflammation are acute and chronic. Acute inflammation is of short duration, which could be anything from a few minutes to a few days. Such inflammation is caused by foreign substances entering the body, or by physical damage. A viral infection may also precipitate acute inflammation.
Chronic inflammation, on the other hand, is long lasting. It may persist for weeks, months or even years. Chronic inflammation may be brought on by acute inflammation or it may be the result of an auto immune disease.
Two other, less common types of inflammation are sub-acute inflammation and granulomatous chronic inflammation. Sub-acute inflammation has clinical features of both acute and chronic inflammation – it is an intermediary stage between the two. Granulomatous chronic inflammation is a special type of chronic inflammation that is associated with tuberculosis and some lesser known diseases.[1]
When inflammation occurs, chemicals from the body's white blood cells are released into the blood or affected tissues in an attempt to rid the body of foreign substances. This release of chemicals increases the blood flow to the area and may result in redness and warmth. Some of the chemicals cause leakage of fluid into the tissues, resulting in swelling. The inflammatory process may stimulate nerves and cause pain.[2]
Nopalea® (No--pah lay' uh) blends antioxidant-rich Nopal cactus superfruit with naturally sweet Agave nectar to bring you a deliciously unique concentrated wellness drink. Harnessing the power of betalains, a rare and powerful class of antioxidants that flourishes in the Nopal fruit, Nopalea® delivers scientifically proven health benefits.
If inflammation is the problem, Nopalea® is the solution, because of the betalains. When you drink Nopalea, you take these betalains into your system, where they begin to restore your vitality on a cellular level. By helping the body reduce the toxins surrounding your cells and enabling essential nutrients to reach each cell, the betalains in Nopalea® can reduce the inflammation in your body that leads to disease.

4. Vitamins and Minerals
Did you know that your body needs essential nutrients? These nutrients come in different forms, vitamins and minerals. Do you know how to tell them apart?
Vitamins and minerals are needed for growth and good health. Most of the vitamins and minerals your body needs are found in the food you eat. That's why it's important to eat a balanced diet that includes fruits and vegetables. However, most of us do not abide to a healthy diet.
Vitamins are chemical compounds and minerals are chemical elements. They are nutrients for the human body that are contained within food substances. Vitamins control the chemical reactions within the body to convert food into energy and living tissue. They help the body use the energy nutrients, maintain normal body tissue, act as a regulator, and are only needed in small amounts.
Vitamins are organic compounds that can either be fat soluble—easily absorbed by the body, or water soluble—not easily absorbed.
Water soluble vitamins include vitamin C, folic acid and the eight B-complex vitamins. These can pass through your system quickly so be sure to replenish them often during the day by eating nutritious but small meals.
Fat soluble vitamins include vitamins A, D, E and K and beta-carotene. Fat soluble vitamins are stored in the body tissues. They need the presence of fatty acids to be used efficiently by your body. To avoid depletion of fat soluble vitamins, be sure to include healthy fats like avocado and oils like olive, corn and sunflower.
Minerals can help you build strong bones... help promote blood platelet health to heal wounds and injuries... and give you tons of energy. The most common and critical minerals include calcium, copper, chromium, boron, iodine, iron, magnesium, potassium, sodium, phosphorus, selenium, vanadium and zinc.
Nutritional experts recommend getting most of your vitamins and minerals from your diet, but supplementation is also a simple way to boost your overall health.
It's good to remember that each vitamin and mineral meets specific body needs. A vitamin cannot substitute, or stand in for, a mineral and vice-versa. So it's important to get the proper nourishment of vitamins and minerals on a daily basis, if not through diet, than through supplementation.
It's been stated that the lack, or deficiency of, one of these vitamins and/or minerals can sometimes interfere with another vitamin or mineral's function or effectiveness. It's also possible, if a vitamin or mineral deficiency continues, the person can incur a related disease such as beriberi, pellagra, rickets, and scurvy. Conversely, too much of some minerals and vitamins can bring on a toxic condition.
Before taking any supplements, it's always best to confer with your doctor or health professional. If that's been done, and you're looking for the vitamin and mineral supplements that are right for you, click on the following link to check out TriVita's Products.

5. Vitamin B-12
TriVita has several vitamin b-12 supplements, and people always wonder which supplement is right for them. In TriVita's latest Weekly Wellness Report, Brazos Minshew, TriVita's Chief Science Officer, answers the all important question, "Which B-12 supplement is right for you?"
In order to keep the integrity of his answer, I've decided to post the answer in its entirety.
Question: TriVita has several Sublingual B-12 supplements. Which one should I take?
Answer: It depends on your needs.
Need for Vitamin B-12
Vitamin B-12 is an essential nutrient: You cannot thrive without it. You need Vitamin B-12 to make healthy blood, healthy nerves and a healthy brain. Vitamin B-12 insufficiency is implicated in a number of common conditions: from allergies and ADHD to bipolar disorder and Alzheimer's disease. Along with iron and Vitamin C, Vitamin B-12 is one of the most common nutrient deficiencies among seniors. You may actually be protected from a shrinking brain with healthy levels of Vitamin B-12.
There are three ways of looking at "need" in Vitamin B-12:
- Disease. If your blood levels are low in B-12 you may be diagnosed with a medical condition called pernicious anemia. This is a serious health condition that is often caused by the inability to properly absorb B-12.
- Complete B-12 metabolism. Is the B-12 you are taking doing what it is supposed to do? If so, your homocysteine levels will be low. If not, your homocysteine levels will be high – even though your blood levels of B-12 are also high. B-12 along with folate, Vitamin B-6 and biotin are still needed as long as homocysteine levels are too high.
- How you feel. Are you mentally sluggish? Do you feel better when you take B-12? If so, you can continue to take B-12 simply to feel better because there is no toxicity associated with taking B-12.
Types of B-12
Vitamin B-12 is made from the mineral cobalt by beneficial bacterial in the soil and inside living organisms. When scientists make Vitamin B-12 for use in supplements, it is done in the same way. The "parent" form of B-12 is cyanocobalamine (cyan- means blue: the color of cobalt). Cyanocobalamine nourishes your entire body, and your liver uses cyanocobalamine to make other forms of Vitamin B-12. One of the major "children" of cyanocobalamine is methylcobalamine. Methyl-B12 is used in detoxification, especially homocysteine detoxification.
There are many other types of B-12. However, as long as you have cyanocobalamine, your body will make the other types as it needs them. The exception to this rule occurs when a person has been poisoned with toxins such as mercury and lead or when a genetic imbalance prevents them from completely converting B-12.
The type of B-12 for you
Most people over 30 need to take a B-12 supplement. The only certain way to get B-12 into your system quickly (besides injecting it) is to absorb it sublingually, under your tongue. Even people under 30 may take B-12 if they feel stressed, suffer from allergies or asthma, are sad, blue or tired. Vitamin B-12 is also helpful in people with ADHD and other nervous disorders – not as a medical treatment, but as a support for healthy blood, nerves and brain.
TriVita's Sublingual B-12 is awesome in these circumstances. Or you may want to step up to TriVita's Super Sublingual B-12 which is faster-acting and longer-lasting – with three times the Vitamin B-12. If your homocysteine levels are high, or if you have a family history of heart attack, stroke, osteoporosis, or Alzheimer's disease, HCY Guard may be best for you.
This should help you see the need for Vitamin B-12 as well as give you the tools you need to decide which one(s) you need!
One thing you can do is take control of your health. It's something you can decide to do. It's your decision!
According to Brazos Minchew's report, you should use Sublingual B-12 or Super Sublingual B-12 if:
- You are over 30
- You have any type of digestion issue
- You have low energy
- You have poor moods
- You need to improve your memory
And he suggests that you should use HCY Guard if:
- You have elevated levels of homocysteine
- You are exposed to environmental toxins
- You have low kidney function
- You need detoxification

6. Vitamins and Minerals
When it comes to understanding the importance of vitamins and minerals and there affects on the human body, something I've always taken and interest in, I feel it's a duty of mine to share information that I find with others. Although I don't currently have scientific evidence to back up what's in this article, I do believe that there are some very important statements that you should read regarding vitamins and minerals.
Most individuals, especially as we age, require more nutrients than the diet supplies. Unfortunately, few of us eat the recommended 5-7 servings of fruits and vegetables/day. Scientific evidence continues to support the fact that vitamin deficiencies are more common than previously thought.
It has been estimated that at least 50 human genetic diseases are caused by specific errors in the DNA blueprint. However, it's possible to eliminate these diseases by taking vitamins in excess of the recommended daily requirements.
Enzymes are the work horses of the body in that they function to facilitate biochemical reactions necessary for activities such as muscle contraction, wound healing, digestion of food, metabolism of carbohydrate, fat and protein, and virtually all the numerous chemical reactions necessary for growth and vitality.
The body manufactures approximately 4,000 different enzymes, and 22% of them require a helper molecule, a coenzyme, to carry out their activity. The relatively tiny B vitamin fits snugly into a specific site on the enzyme, much like a ball in a catcher's mitt. This interaction between enzyme and vitamin must be a near perfect fit for the enzyme to be active. Once this reaction is complete, the enzyme, now known as a holoenzyme, can perform work for the cell.
Vitamins must fit tightly in the pocket of the enzyme for full activity. If an enzyme is produced from a gene containing a genetic error (especially in the formation of the vitamin pocket) the error will most likely affect the ability of the enzyme to bind with the vitamin. This will result in reduced enzyme activity, because the vitamin will not be properly fitted to the enzyme.
Enzymologists working in a laboratory have demonstrated a method to force the vitamin into a pocket of an enzyme with low binding affinity. The technique involves raising the concentration of the vitamin, thereby increasing the chance of a productive interaction between the vitamin and its binding site (pocket) on the enzyme. This is precisely what is believed to occur in some of the 50 or so known genetic diseases that are corrected or improved by ingestion of megadoses of vitamins.
The high doses essentially force the imperfect pocket to pop into the vitamin-binding conformation, thereby creating the active holoenzyme. Other genetic errors can also interfere with the transport of the vitamin into the cell.
For example, a protein known as intrinsic factor is produced by the stomach and functions as a vehicle to carry vitamin B-12 from the intestine into the plasma. A defect in this factor will also produce a B-12 deficiency, which can be corrected by B-12 injections or high doses of sublingual B-12, both of which by-pass the intrinsic factor block.
Since many vitamins have carrier proteins, this type of error is potentially more common than presently realized. Furthermore, stomach acidity is important in vitamin absorption and it is known that some individuals (more common in the elderly) have low vitamin absorption due to abnormal stomach acidity, which again may be corrected by high-dose vitamin therapy.
Vitamins may also serve a role in protecting enzymes from free radical attack. Enzymes are longer-lived when they are in the company of substances they normally work with or bind to, such as the vitamins. The enzyme-bound vitamin affords a shield from free radical attack, as well as promoting a more compact, stable enzyme structure.
Although the need for vitamins and minerals is widely recognized, most people don't bother to take supplements that would ensure adequate vitamin intake. A national survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention produced data indicating that 60% of the U.S. population had not taken at least 1 vitamin or mineral in the past month.
As scientists continue to gather information from their laboratory testing, you can be assured that individuals will embrace the truth of their results, and turn to supplements to improve their health. As many of us already know, vitamins are synonymous with good health. However, most Americans do not take vitamin or mineral supplements.
A changing diet affects the need for vitamins, as does age. Since older bodies don't absorb vitamins, through the natural process, as well as younger ones, the need for a high quality vitamin and mineral supplement is required. This is especially true if your interested in fighting one of the 50, or so, human genetic diseases.
Before you take any supplements, it's best to consult your doctor, especially if you're taking prescription medications.

More than 40 million Americans suffer from knee... back... hand... wrist... finger... and hip pain. Just the slightest flare-up can ruin your entire day and keep you up all night!
Most prescription drugs get rid of the pain but cause other negative side effects to the rest of your body.
The main cause of this pain is inflammation. Inflammation is considered to be the common link between such debilitating conditions as Alzheimers, heart disease, cancer, and arthritis? However, there is some good news! If you reduce inflammation in your body, you'll not only look and feel younger, but you'll significantly lower your risk for chronic disease!
How do we reduce inflammation and start on a path better health? Before we get into reducing inflammation, let's look at what causes inflammation. Below is a partial list of some frequent causes of inflammation.
- Chronic low-grade food allergies or food sensitivities that may cause few symptoms.
- An imbalance of bacteria and fungi in your gastrointestinal tract, also known as dysbiosis. This causes your immune system to overreact to bacteria in your gut and can be without notable symptoms.
- Stress! Constant psychological, emotional or physical stress raises the level of cortisol, creating inflammation.
- Environmental toxicity from our air, water, food pollutants and toxic metals like mercury and lead all contribute to inflammation and have been linked to diseases as varied as endometriosis and cancer.
- Diet and lifestyle: too much fat, sugar, and protein in your diet, constant dehydration, consumption of too many sodas or caffeine, inactivity, and lack of sleep can all increase inflammation in your body.[1]
Most of the inflammation we experience occurs in our joints and muscles. According to some medical experts, many types of joint and muscle disease are the result of "auto inflammation." Arthritis is a general term that describes inflammation in joints. Some types of arthritis associated with inflammation include:
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Psoriatic arthritis
- Gout
- Pseudo gout
- Reiter's disease
- Polymyalgia rheumatica[2]
Because of the many types of inflammation, there are a number of treatment options for inflammatory joint diseases including medications, rest and exercise, and surgery to correct joint damage. The type of treatment prescribed will depend on several factors including the type of disease, the person's age, type of medications he or she is taking, overall health, medical history and severity of symptoms.
With that said, treating inflammation is possible by drinking Nopalea™, a product of TriVita. TriVita's CEO, Michael Ellison, has discovered a superfruit from the Sonoran Desert, with extremely high anti-inflammatory qualities. Through his passion for wellness, and trying to find a cure for his own physical ailments, Mr. Ellison pursued the healing powers of the Nopal cactus.
Betalains, a rare and potent class of antioxidants, are the pigments that give the Nopal cactus fruit its vibrant pink color. But that's just the beginning. They're also natural antioxidants-and they're only found in a few of the world's plants.[3]
The Nopal fruit isn't just included in this small group of special plants; it actually leads the group by containing one of the highest amounts of betalains in all of nature.
When you drink Nopalea™, you take these betalains into your system, where they begin to restore your vitality on a cellular level. By helping the body reduce the toxins surrounding your cells and enabling essential nutrients to reach each cell, the betalains in Nopalea™ can reduce the inflammation in your body that leads to disease.
Remember what was previously written? "If you reduce inflammation in your body, you'll not only look and feel younger, but you'll significantly lower your risk for chronic disease!" That's exactly what Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™ does, and what it can do for you.
Over a month ago, I hit my right elbow on the tile counter when vacuuming and ever since then my elbow and arm have been acting up in pain. I was unable to use my right hand without excruciating pain. I started taking Nopalea™ this week and within a few days, I noticed I can do things with my right hand and arm with almost no pain. I think the pain will be gone by the weekend and I will be able to plant some vegetables. This is huge! I was at the North Carolina event yesterday and learned that TriVita CEO Michael Ellison is on a mission to bring this product to the world! His passion will definitely help people with their health and wellness because Nopalea™ works. The business opportunity is great due to the demand for this product and it tastes delicious!
Ann D. - Granite Falls, NC
The testimonials to the healing aspects of Nopalea™ will continue to come in, and TriVita's Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™ is sure to take its place as one of the most powerful wellness products on the market. If you or someone you know is suffering from some of the causes listed above, go to http://sonoranbloom.healthfulchoice.com to learn more about Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™.

Vitamin D is found in many dietary sources such as fish, eggs, fortified milk, and cod liver oil. The sun also contributes significantly to the daily production of vitamin D, and as little as 10 minutes of exposure is thought to be enough to prevent deficiencies.
The major biologic function of vitamin D is to maintain normal blood levels of calcium and phosphorus. Vitamin D aids in the absorption of calcium, helping to form and maintain strong bones. Recently, research also suggests vitamin D may provide protection from osteoporosis, hypertension (high blood pressure), cancer, and several autoimmune diseases.[1]
In a recent study, a team of European researchers has demonstrated that higher levels of vitamin D are associated with improved cognitive function in middle-aged and older men.
The study compared the cognitive performance of more than 3,000 men aged 40 to 79 years, and found that those with higher levels of vitamin D performed consistently better in a test that assesses an individual’s attention and speed of information processing.
The experiment took into account factors such as depression, season and levels of physical activity.
"Previous studies exploring the relationship ... produced inconsistent findings, but we observed a significant, independent association between a slower information processing speed and lower levels of vitamin D," says lead author Dr. David Lee from the University of Manchester School of Translational Medicine.[2]
Since vitamin D is primarily synthesized in the skin following sun exposure, and not many people get enough exposure to sunlight on a daily basis, and because of our fast paced lifestyle, nutritional supplements may be the best means to receive this all important vitamin.
TriVita has developed VitaCal-Mag D, which provides five forms of chelated calcium, over 20 bone-fortifying vitamins and minerals, 100% RDI of Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc and Vitamin D, within Chlorophyll-coated tablets that protect the valuable nutrients, which are time-releasing for optimal absorption.

9. Omega Prime
TriVita Omega Prime and Your Hormones
Hormones are natural messengers produced by our bodies. They are responsible for successful development, normal behavior, maintenance of normal body processes and reproduction.
The hormone with which you are probably most familiar is estrogen. Both men and women need estrogen to be healthy. For example, your heart needs estrogen in order for the heart valves to close properly. You may be surprised to learn that estrogen is not a single hormone; rather, it is a group of hormones. Each type of estrogen has a different function in your body.
You may have heard of testosterone. If so, you may have associated testosterone with men. However, women actually produce testosterone as well (just as men also produce estrogen). Some benefits of testosterone in men and women include maintaining muscle mass, reducing body fat, growing healthier hair and, of course, a healthier libido.
These two hormones are not the whole "hormone picture." In fact, they represent broad categories of hormones that may encompass hundreds of other hormones. Also, they interact in such a way that a relative excess in one hormone may make another hormone seem deficient even though blood tests say it is "normal."
Estrogen and testosterone, among others, are examples of trophic hormones. They are made of the same substance: cholesterol. If your body is unable to convert cholesterol into these hormones you may see your blood levels of cholesterol rise. You can bring your cholesterol down and your low hormones up by helping convert cholesterol to trophic hormones.
Balancing hormones is simple, though it is not always easy: We make them, use them and get rid of (detoxify) them. This is the cycle of balanced hormones. The vast majority of people using this procedure achieve balanced hormones in just a few months.
We make good hormones from good fats. Most doctors recommend over 1,200 milligrams of Omega-3 fats for building healthy hormones. OmegaPrime® contains Omega-3 fats. OmegaPrime also contains Evening Primrose oil to help convert cholesterol to any of these hormones that may be low. You may find that you need higher levels of OmegaPrime every day to properly convert cholesterol into trophic hormones.
TriVita's Omega Prime contains a premier and unique blend of four different types of the most highly regarded Essential Fatty Acids (EFA) oils – Fish, Flaxseed, Evening Primrose and Perilla Seed. It also uses only contaminant-free fish oil that has undergone a 10 stage distilling process.
Omega Prime's EFAs support our wellness in so many ways, starting with helping to reduce runaway inflammation. Many of us don't realize this, but runaway inflammation can lead to various serious health problems in the body involving the heart, arteries, lungs, joints and more.
Omega Prime helps meet the American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines. One daily dose of Omega Prime provides the amount of Omega-3 recommended by the AHA for healthy individuals, as well as for those who have heart disease or the risk of it.
Balanced Woman® (for women) and Prostate Health Formula (for men) along with Vitamin E help direct the hormones where they need to go. Once there, Balanced Woman, Prostate Health Formula and Vitamin E help the hormones complete their work: building up the body and mind.
The hormones must be excreted from your body to prevent them from building up to toxic levels. TriVita has several products, like Balanced Woman and Prostate Health Formula, that nourish this detoxification process.
The basis of this article, and the information used is provided by Brazos Minshew, TriVita's Chief Science Officer. Minshew is in charge of formulating the best new supplements possible. Imbalanced hormones can cause uncomfortable symptoms, which creates stress. Stress all by itself creates hormone imbalances. Add the insult of a toxic world to the daily traumas, nutrient deficiencies and stresses from inside and outside our bodies and we have a recipe for disaster.

10. Vitamin D
Vitamin D
Have you ever wondered if all the claims about vitamin D are true or not? Well I have found more research to back up what I've reported in the past. Vitamin D is very important to maintaining a healthy body, and the deficiency thereof, may cause more health issue than we realize. Below are a few of the findings along with some of the sources.
- Researchers in Belgium have recently shown that critically ill patients are profoundly deficient in vitamin D—and that vitamin D supplements can help lower their blood evidence of inflammation. Even small amounts of vitamin D, about 500 IU, lowered inflammation by more than 25% in that small group of critically ill patients.
- In another study, researchers at the University of London found that vitamin D deficiency is associated with increased inflammation in otherwise healthy people-and that supplementing with vitamin D dramatically reduces inflammation throughout the body. The authors concluded, "This finding provides a possible mechanism for tissue damage in chronic inflammatory conditions, including heart and blood sugar problems."
- Earlier this year, researchers once again reaffirmed that patients with serious heart problems have critically low levels of vitamin D. The scientists concluded vitamin D deficiency might contribute to the development of congestive heart failure.
If that's not enough to make you believe that vitamin D is important, here is some additional information I've discovered. These are not exact quotes, however, there are sources of the general content of the findings.
In a study with 583 elderly women (mean age 85 years), those given 1,200 mg of calcium and 800 IU of vitamin D had a 69% reduced risk of suffering a hip fracture. - Osteoporosis International
A group of 2,686 people ages 65 to 85 living in the general community was assigned to receive four monthly 100,000 IU doses of vitamin D3 supplement or a placebo during the winter months. This amount averages about 800 IU of vitamin D daily.
The group receiving the supplemental vitamin D had a reduced risk of 22% for sustaining a first general fracture and a 33% reduced risk for sustaining a first fracture of common sites. - British Medical Journal
Low vitamin D linked to blood pressure problems! The lower your vitamin D levels, the higher your risk for high blood pressure. - New England Journal of Medicine
A group of 122 women with an average age of 85, were observed for six weeks prior to receiving either 1,200 mg of calcium daily or 1,200 mg of calcium and 800 IU of vitamin D daily for three months.
Muscle strength increased only in the group receiving both calcium and vitamin D. This group also had a 49% reduction in falls.
Researchers theorized that vitamin D increases calcium flow in the muscle tissue, which improves contraction, thus preventing falls. - Bone and Mineral Research
Low vitamin D levels are a significant factor in failure of the heart muscle. - Journal of the American College of Cardiology
Need more proof? Do you own research, or ask your health professional. Don't take my word for it, but understand that I don't believe that all these researchers, scientists, and doctors are wrong. Did you ever wonder why the elderly migrate to the sunshine state in the winter? And wouldn't you say they all look healthier, and live longer? I would have to say that there must be at least some truth to all this research.

11. Sonoran Bloom
Harnessing the power of betalains, a rare and potent class of antioxidants that flourish in the Nopal cactus, TriVita's Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™ delivers scientifically proven health benefits.
According to Marcelle Pick, NP OB/GYN, "our bodies weren't designed for modern life. We're sitting ducks to a daily barrage of toxins, infectious agents and stress, seen and unseen. This kind of demand requires a lot of support to maintain your immune's system resilience. Our go-go lifestyle just doesn't make room unless we pay attention - to everything: what we breathe, eat, drink and absorb and feel. It all has a pro- or anti-inflammatory effect, and for most of us, the factors are skewed toward inflammation."[1]
Nopalea™ combines its betalains with other anti-toxic ingredients to combat these poisons where they strike us first: right inside the trillions of cells in our bodies.
By increasing the activity of CYP-2E1, a special enzyme that neutralizes daily toxins, Nopalea™ protects your cells and vital organs-especially your liver-against the carcinogens, hormone disruptors, respiratory toxins, developmental toxins and neurotoxins that are responsible for one-quarter of all the world's diseases.
When toxins assault your system-or when injury or infection strikes-your body responds with a complex biological process commonly referred to as inflammation. If this inflammation goes unchecked, it can lead to a wide variety of disorders, from stroke to arthritis to heart disease.
Dr. Pick continues, "Many experts now see inflammation as arising from an immune system that's out of control. When you catch a cold or sprain your ankle, your immune system switches into gear. Infection or injury triggers a chain of events called the inflammatory cascade. The familiar signs of normal inflammation - fever, pain, swelling - are the first signals that your immune system is being called into action."
"In a delicate balance of give-and-take, inflammation begins when pro-inflammatory hormones in your body call out for your white blood cells to come and clear out infection and damaged tissue. These agents are matched by equally powerful, closely related anti-inflammatory compounds, which move in to begin the healing process once the threat is neutralized."
Sometimes your own natural anti-inflammatory process is not powerful enough to overcome the inflammation. In other words, the inflammation is more powerful than your natural anti-inflammatory compounds. With said, we need a more powerful anti-inflammatory agent to help our bodies fight the inflammation. And that's where Nopalea™ comes in.
Nopalea™ specifically targets signs of inflammation in your body and reduces them quickly.[2] Its betalains and other anti-inflammatory ingredients work directly on the fluid surrounding your cells. There, they draw off the toxins and excess water to reduce inflammation and rebalance the cellular environment.
Nopalea's betalains are not just working inside your body. Your skin is a miraculous covering that protects you from harm. Pollution, toxins, radiation and other potentially damaging influences are kept out of your body by your skin; vital organs are protected inside. One of the first signs of aging is thin, sagging, withered skin that is easily damaged.
Nopalea™ rushes to these damaged areas to shore up your protective layer. The betalains in Nopalea fill in the gaps of your cells (including the cells in your skin) and return them to the firm, robust nature of young cells - at any age. By providing a healthy environment for the cell, betalains keep it from withering.
Today, you can start harnessing the power of the Nopal cactus and its antioxidant-rich healing properties. Click on the Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™ link to learn how.

Hippocrates became famous for his treatment of disease in accordance with natural laws. In fact, although Hippocrates is called the Father of Medicine, modern medical science completely ignores the self-evident laws of health laid down by him, which state:
Only nature heals, providing it is given the opportunity to do so;
Let food be your medicine and let medicine be your food;
Disease is an expression of purification;
All disease is one.
What did Hippocrates mean when he said that "all disease is one?" I just wonder if he was referring to inflammation. After all, according to medical professionals, "inflammation is a process by which the body's white blood cells and chemicals protect us from infection and foreign substances such as bacteria and viruses."[1]
According to scientific research, when toxins assault your system-or when injury or infection strikes-your body responds with a complex biological process commonly referred to as inflammation. If this inflammation goes unchecked, it can lead to a wide variety of disorders, from stroke to arthritis to heart disease.
The Nopal cactus has been called a superfruit. That's because its powerful antioxidant betalains have been known to boost the health and well-being of all who drink in its powers.
But don't just take our word for it. See what the scientific research community has to say.

13. SEO is not Difficult
Getting your web site noticed on Google does not take a degree in marketing or search engine optimization. However, it does take some effort on your part. Google does not just go out, find your site and rank it in the number one position just because it looks great. As a matter of fact, a lot of great looking web sites will never be found when doing searches.
One means of search engine optimization (SEO) that works really well is blog posting. Although exceptional results are achievable, consistency is the key. You must post to your blog on a consistent basis, daily works best. That said, once you've reached that targeted position on Google (for your keyword), posting once a week seems to maintain the position you have achieved.
According to Scott Van Achte, Senior SEO at StepForth Web Marketing Inc., "an established blog that is updated regularly gets spidered by Google often, and increases the chances of new search rankings considerably. I have seen multiple situations where regularly updated blogs wind up ranking #1 in Google for relevant phrases literally within a couple hours of posting. It usually takes a well established web site and blog to make this happen, but there is big potential if you do things the right way." [1]
What does posting to a blog have to do with getting your web site to the top of Google?
First and foremost, or a least the way I see it, is back links. A well written blog, not only may rank well, but will also get you free one way links to your web site. Individuals reading your blog may add a link to their blog, and if you have strategically placed a link to your web site within your post, you will get an additional link back to your web site. Since Google takes back links into consideration when choosing which sites to rank higher than others, back links play an important part.
Not only will the additional back links increase your ranking on Google, they can also produce more traffic to your web site. People reading, a well written article tend to, click on the link to learn more. A lot of visitors will either return to your site to get additional information, or send the link to a friend or family member they know has been looking for the information you are providing.
Blogs are a great resource when it comes to SEO, and blogs can cover a plethora of industries. Blogs do not have to take a lot of time, once they are setup, and the initial postings have been put in place.
There are a lot of ways to generate posts. However, one of the easiest, that I've found, is to comment on articles that I've read. This form of editorializing works really well, as long as you give credit to the original author. It's also a great way for someone new at blog posting to get started.
So find an article, and write a editorial, or comment, about that article. Getting started is the hardest part, but everyone has to take that first step. Start increasing your web site ranking today. Really, search engine optimization is not that difficult.

14. Omega Prime
Omega Prime
To many, it's a known fact that long-chain omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) have plenty of positive affects on the human body. Nutritionists and medical professionals would probably all agree that eating foods, like salmon, tuna, and mackerel are healthier than eating any type of meat. Unfortunately, a lot of people do not like fish.
According to experts, and a new study by the Harvard School of Public Health, there are three primary reasons for a high ranking of omega-3 deficiency as a risk factor for preventable death:
- Omega-3s are proven to prevent stroke, second heart attacks, and sudden cardiac death, which is responsible for half of all heart-related deaths.
- Omega-3s appear to reduce depression, which is linked to heart disease and suicide.
- Omega-3s are critical to proper immune function.
The study revealed "that a deficiency of omega-3 fatty acids in the diet causes up to 96,000 preventable deaths annually in the United States." The researchers also went on to say that "low omega-3 intake ranked as the sixth greatest killer, responsible for about 84,000 preventable deaths in 2005."
Causing 84,000 preventable deaths, low omega-3 intake was found a greater risk factor than high intake of trans fatty acids (82,000 preventable deaths), found in hydrogenated vegetable oils (Danaei G et al. 2009).
What is the recommended daily requirement of omega-3 fatty acids?
Most world health authorities recommend taking 500mg or more per day, and the American Heart Association recommends that heart patients take 1,000mg per day under medical supervision.
If fish is your best source of EPA and DHAs, and your not a fish eater, how else can you get this all important polyunsaturated fat?
Many brands of omega-3 oils and supplements are available in grocery stores and vitamin shops. If you choose fish oil, be sure the brand you select is mercury free. TriVita's Omega Prime is a supplement that I suggest, and one gives you the needed fatty acid to maintain a healthy omega-3 balance.
Omega Prime helps meet the American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines. One daily dose of Omega Prime provides the amount of Omega-3 recommended by the AHA for healthy individuals, as well as for those who have heart disease or the risk of it.
Before taking any supplements, first and foremost, ask your health professional then read as much as you can about the additional fish oil benefits. You'll find that they provide an amazing array of health benefits.

15. Weight Loss
Weight Loss
The faster your metabolism runs the more calories you burn. The more you burn, the easier it is to drop pounds. And get this – you can make your metabolism work harder, a lot harder, 24 hours a day.
Getting your metabolism to work at a higher degree is just part of the weight loss process. However, it's what most nutrition experts say is the fastest way to lose those unwanted pounds.
TriVita's Leanology is a product that will help you increase your metabolism. Leanology Capsules are made with nutrients – not stimulants – that promote lean body mass while helping reduce body fat. These fat-burning capsules help you avoid storing carbs and sugar as fat, while reducing food cravings.
"You have a huge amount of control over your metabolic rate," says John Berardi, Ph.D., C.S.C.S., author of The Metabolism Advantage. "You can't affect how many calories it takes to keep your heart beating, but you can burn an extra 500 to 600 calories a day by exercising properly and eating right." And by making a few changes to your routine. [1]
There are approximately 50 million Americans who go on diets each year – yet only 5 percent keep the weight they lose off. Many people trying to lose weight continually struggle to find an effective weight loss method. Unfortunately, there is no magic wand someone can use to lose weight and/or to keep the weight off. Some experts say that the only proven way to lose weight and keep it off is by making permanent lifestyle changes. You must eat healthier, watch portion sizes and be active.
As part of your lifestyle change, I suggest trying TriVita's Leanology three step system to weight loss. Leanology Weight Loss Capsules are no ordinary "diet pills." They are clinically proven to help reduce body weight and fat and are made with natural, stimulant-free ingredients including Converta™, The Fat Burning Accelerator.
Fat is really just stored energy. When you consume more energy – in the form of food – than your body can use, it is stored as fat. There are about 3,500 calories of energy stored in every pound of excess fat. The nutrients in Converta™ target this stored energy and release it.
Converta™ liberates fat from your diet and your fat cells, and prepares it to be used as energy. Nutrients break down the fats into packets of fuel in your bloodstream and help your cells receive this fuel. Once the fuel enters your cells, it is burned and its energy is released.
Leanology Weight Loss Capsules do much more than convert fat to energy. They also help:
- Limit cortisol production – the stress-caused hormone that can lead to belly fat
- Control appetite by minimizing sweets and carb cravings
- Use the carbs and sugar you consume as energy, rather than storing them as fat, which helps with blood sugar balance
Plus, Leanology Weight Loss Capsules are convenient and easy to use. Simply take the capsules with meals or a healthy snack, such as Leanology Appetite Control Chews.

16. Vitamin D
Vitamin D
I've written many articles about the importance of vitamin D, and how a lack thereof, leads to heart problems, immune system functionality, and even cancer. My research has found that vitamin D is a very important piece to the overall health of the human body, especially in women.
Here is another study to back up my previous findings: One of the latest studies, conducted by the University of Missouri, concludes that "vitamin D deficiency is associated with inflammation, a negative response of the immune system, in healthy women." [1]
Catherine Peterson, assistant professor in the MU College of Human Environmental Sciences says, "the findings reveal that low vitamin D levels negatively impact inflammation and immune response, even in healthy women. Increased inflammation normally is found in people with obesity or chronic diseases; a small decrease in vitamin D levels may aggravate symptoms in people who are sick."
With more and more studies being conducted each day, how can someone get vitamin D into their body? According to experts the most natural way is through exposure to sunlight. However, not everyone lives in an area where exposure to sunlight is the norm. As a matter of fact, many northern states are lacking the average daily sunlight needed to sustain the proper amounts of vitamin D, especially in the winter months.
Peterson says, "exposing 25 percent of the skin's surface area to 10 minutes of sunlight three days per week will maintain adequate levels in the majority of people; however, people with darkly-pigmented skin need more. Only a few foods contain vitamin D naturally, such as fatty fish; other sources are dietary supplements and vitamin-D-fortified foods, including milk and orange juice."
With sunlight being the best source of vitamin D, and the fact that most people do not have the opportunity to get the needed sunlight exposure, it seems like the most logical source of this all important vitamin is through supplements. That's why I promote TriVita's VitaCal Mag-D.
TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D provides five forms of chelated calcium, over 20 bone-fortifying vitamins and minerals, 100% RDI of Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc and Vitamin D, and Chlorophyll-coated tablets that protect valuable nutrients, time-releasing optimal absorption. TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D is also absorbable so you can get the nutrition you need for healthier bones. [2]
"The results (of the study by MU) support the need to re-examine the biological basis for determining the dietary reference intake (DRI) of vitamin D", Peterson said. "The Institute of Medicine's DRI for vitamin D is 200 IU for people age 50 and younger and 400 IU for people 50 to 70 years old. The guidelines, created in 1997, are being revised to reflect new research, and Peterson is confident the DRI will be increased."/
Research will continue to be done on vitamins and minerals, and we are continuing to see vitamins, like vitamin D, have a greater positive affect on the human body than once thought. Once only thought of as the "bone" vitamin, vitamin D, through extensive research, vitamin D is becoming more critical to the overall wellness of your body.

17. Sonoran Bloom
TriVita's Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™ harnesses the power of betalains, a rare and powerful class of antioxidants that flourishes in the Nopal fruit, Nopalea delivers scientifically proven health benefits.
The human body is designed to fight premature aging and remain young. A powerful force called homeostasis mobilizes your immune system, hormones, nerves and other important systems to ignite the healing process. Homeostasis uses focused inflammation to remodel your cells following injury, illness or even the extreme challenges of emotional stress. Once the healing process is complete, homeostasis extinguishes the fire of inflammation and returns your body to a state of dynamic and vital balance – free from the effects of runaway inflammation.
Homeostasis orchestrates the cells in your body to maintain balance under even severe conditions.
However, there are times when your body cannot heal itself. If inflammation overwhelms a cell it may be damaged beyond repair. Damaged, dead cells must be removed or they will become the focus of infection and illness.
Betalains, a unique class of nutrient that is both an antioxidant and a protein, assist a special cell called a macrophage (literally "big eater") to engulf the dead cell and eliminate it from your body. This makes room for a brand-new replacement cell and the cycle of wellness continues.
It's been noted in many scientific studies that antioxidants in the diet reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer.
The name "betalain" comes from the Latin name of the common beet (Beta vulgaris), from which betalains were first extracted. The deep red color of beets, bougainvillea, amaranth, and many cacti results from the presence of betalain pigments.[1] The particular shades of red to purple are distinctive and unlike that of anthocyanin pigments found in most plants. Betalains may occur in any part of the plant, including the petals of flowers, fruits, leaves, stems, and roots.
When you drink Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™, you take these betalains into your system, where they begin to restore your vitality on a cellular level. By helping the body reduce the toxins surrounding your cells and enabling essential nutrients to reach each cell, the betalains in Nopalea can reduce the inflammation in your body that leads to disease.
Nopalea uses only the freshest Nopal cactus fruit and preserves its antioxidant potency in TriVita's state-of-the-art facility. TriVita carefully harvest the fruit using sustainable wild crafting techniques that have been practiced in the Sonoran Desert for thousands of years.
Like all TriVita products, Nopalea™ is created in accordance with our company's 10 Foundational Values. These Values ensure the quality of Nopalea™, which is made under the strictest quality controls in the nutritional supplement industry. All of the Nopalea™ manufacturing and laboratory processes meet or exceed the most current Good Manufacturing Practices, as published by the Food and Drug Administration.
Sonoran Bloom is destined to become one of the top selling products for TriVita.

18. Nutritional Vitamin Supplements
Taking nutritional vitamin supplements is probably one of the most important things you can do for the overall health of your body and mind. Taking quality nutritional vitamin supplements on a regular basis can ensure that your body has enough of the nutrients needed to perform and function at a high level.
Since many of us are living longer, doesn't it make sense to live our remaining years as active ones, ones filled with energy and vitality and free from disease? Ultimately, that's the goal of most people, which can be achieved by eating the proper nutritious foods, and taking nutritional vitamin supplements.
Ideally, the best source of vitamins, minerals and nutrients should come from your diet. However, poor food choices, processed foods, sodas and excess sweets have become the norm for millions. Besides, even with a well-balanced diet, studies find that food nutrient values have been declining for decades because of soil depletion.
That's why choosing a high-quality nutritional vitamin supplement helps fill the 'gaps' in nutrition. The nutritional gaps are not unique to you, this is a worldwide problem.
The ingredients used in a vitamin nutritional supplement can be one of two types, natural or synthetic. Numerous studies have shown that the natural nutritional vitamin supplements have a higher potency than the synthetic ingredients. On the other hand, since the synthetic ingredients are less expensive, and cheaper to manufacture, most manufacturers use synthetic ingredients. That's why studies that have been done on the less expensive one-a-day vitamins which show that little, if any, benefits can be obtained using these products.
Vital nutrients that the body requires are must more comprehensive than just a one-a-day multiple vitamins. High quality daily nutritional vitamin supplements should include amino acids to fuel energy production, trigger healthy sleep and assist with organ and muscle repair. Essential amino acids must be consumed from outside sources (food or supplements) because your body doesn't make them.
Taking quality vitamin nutritional supplements should be about better health and energy, freedom from illness, improved sexual vigor and slowing the aging process. Learn as much as you can about ways you can help protect yourself from premature aging and the role that nutritional vitamin supplements will have in your health every day. Commit to a healthy diet, stay active, get sufficient quality sleep and keep taking the best nutritional supplements you can find.
To help your body work and live at its best, you need to give it the best. That's why I suggest giving it TriVita's VitaDaily AM/PM. It's the superior multi-vitamin-mineral-nutrient choice for optimal health, rejuvenation and vitality!
Before taking any supplements, it's best to consult your doctor, especially if you're taking prescription medications.

19. Weight Loss
Why do diets and/or weight loss programs fail? Because just about every person in this world is looking for an easy way to reduce his/her weight. Let me be the first person to inform you that there is no easy weight loss program. Permanent weight loss only comes by making a lifestyle change to both your diet and is in direct proportion to your physical activity (exercise).
If you do find a weight loss program that offers you immediate results without doing any exercise or changing the way you eat, chances are, it does not work. Most weight loss programs are not only very costly but most become boring after a very short period of time. A lot of times, it's that lack of excitement that makes people quit and go back to what they were doing before they started the program.
One weight loss program that has been receiving a lot of attention lately is the Acai Berry Diet. However, most of the attention this program has been receiving is negative. And since this program has been receiving lots of media attention, a closer look into acai berry, and its weight loss claims, is starting to reveal that most of the outrageous claims simply are NOT true.
What's the problem with the acai berry diet program? At first, the Acai Berry Diet became admired in the market because it claimed to help people lose weight by taking an acai pill and/or acai drink on a regular basis. It offered an effective method to lose weight at an affordable price. This all lead to their claim that "shortly a person who is on such a kind of diet has guaranteed weight loss results in a short time."
According to David Schardt, senior nutritionist for the Center for Science in the Public Interest, says "in terms of weight loss there's no reason why a fruit like that (acai) would have any particular effect." [1]
The acai berry has also been labeled as the fruit that is "loaded of antioxidants", and that, according to some of the companies promoting the acai product, is the "major factor that helps to reduce weight." It has also been mentioned that the acai berry "enhances your metabolism which aids to burn the extra fat stored in your body."
The acai berry stormed into the marketplace, especially on the Internet, and has made this a widespread, rampant marketing scam. There are "ads everywhere now: acai for weight loss, acai for sexual dysfunction, acai for cancer, acai with a free trial that can cost hundreds of dollars and leave you on hold for hours trying to stop more charges."
It's the acai scam aspect that has taken the focus off the actual scientific facts of this fruit.
There are so many complaints over the companies promoting and selling this so called, weight loss, pill that back in March 2009, the "attorney general of Connecticut, Richard Blumenthal, and the Center for Science in the Public Interest will issue a warning about credit card schemes peddling supplements made from the acai berry."
The marketing scam has also gotten the Better Business Bureau (BBB) involved in trying to stop, what is called a "negative option" advertising scheme. According to Steve Cox, a BBB spokesman, "BBB [the Better Business Bureau] can't speak to the restorative or weight-loss properties of acai-based products, but we are taking companies to task for their misleading sales and marketing practices." [1]

20. Weight Loss
The main reason people gain weight is because they consume foods with fats and excess sugars. Ultimately, sugars (called carbohydrates) and fats (called lipids) are your body's chief sources of fuel. However, these foods, although an important energy source, often contain few important nutrients, so it's healthier to limit their consumption.
Fat can be divided into two main groups - saturated and unsaturated.
Saturated fat is generally solid at room temperature and is usually from animal sources. It's found in lard, butter, hard margarine, cheese, whole milk and anything that contains these ingredients, such as cakes, chocolate, biscuits, pies and pastries. It's also the white fat you can see on red meat and underneath poultry skin.
Unsaturated fat is usually liquid at room temperature and generally comes from vegetable sources. Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats are both included in this group.
There are two types of sugar - those found naturally in fruit and milk (which are fine and don't need to be cut down) and those that are added to the diet.
These added sugars can be found in a variety of foods including confectionery, soft drinks, desserts and breakfast cereals. Added sugars are a great source of energy, but provide no other nutrients.
The body processes excess sugar into fat, so all the excess sugars are converted into fat. With that said, you can eat fat free foods all day and still gain weight.
Is it possible to maintain, or even lose weight by adding some sort of fat-buring item into our diets? Yes! However, I do mention this with a word of caution: You can't just continue to eat like a glutten and plan to loose weight. Along with a diet change must come physical activity (exercise).
There are many foods, drinks, and supplements with fat burning characteristics. For example, green tea has been highly recognized as one of the most effective sources to increase the body's metabolism. Green Tea with catechins helps to prevent obesity by slowing the glucose in fat cells.
In November, 1999, the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published the results of a study at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. Researchers found that men who were given a combination of caffeine and green tea extract burned more calories than those given only caffeine or a placebo. [1]
Many studies give a strong indication that green tea is a beneficial contributor towards weight loss. With the fat burning effectiveness of green tea, it's no wonder that TriVita's Leanology has green tea as one of its ingredients.
The need for a weight loss program like TriVita's Leanology™ is important to start the weight loss process, but it's not the total cure-all. As mentioned previously, there has to be a lifestyle change if you want to achieve long term results. These results will improve every facet of your life, and can carry over to other members of your immediate family. TriVita does have the right products, but the products alone are not going to change your lifestyle.
Leanology products are scientifically formulated and physician approved. They are natural, nutrient based, and contain no stimulants. Leanology has been clinically proven for optimal, healthy weight loss. The Leanology system of products is convenient and easy to use!

21. Vitamin C
Vitamin C is so crucial to your health in so many ways. Ascorbic acid prevents several debilitating conditions and increases the body's immunity. Vitamin C is very popular as a cell protector, immune system enhancer and powerful antioxidant agent. Collagen, tendons and ligaments depend upon Vitamin C to stay strong and healthy.
Vitamin C benefits also include rejuvenation and an antidote for illnesses such as cold and flu. It helps to reduce the intensity and duration of many health ailments. Wounds are reported to heal much faster since ascorbic acid has inflammation inhibitory action. Gums are protected by a regular consumption of the ascorbic acid. The body's protecting system against cardiac ailments is improved if the cholesterol and lipid levels are under control. Vitamin C benefits include keeping these levels under control.
On the other hand, signs of Vitamin C supplements deficiencies include susceptibility to infection particularly bronchial infections and cold, joint ache and altered digestion. Other signs of ascorbic acid deficiencies are lethargy (lack of energy), susceptibility to bruise easily, weak teeth and poor digestion. Most popular vitamin C deficiency is the disease called scurvy. This disease is not so common in Western countries; however, it features soft spongy bleeding gums, severe debility, edema, poor wound healing, and bleedings under the skin.
Maximum benefits can be achieved if vitamin C supplements are consumed on a daily basis for a particular period of time. I'm not talking about a onetime dose, since the body requires ascorbic acid for maintaining various body systems and their functions. Furthermore, since this Vitamin is water soluble, the body loses it through the natural urination process. That's why, daily supplements of this Vitamin is advised.
As mentioned before, vitamin C supplementation benefits include antioxidant properties. However, there are many researches that indicate that ascorbic acid prevents certain types of cancer as it protects healthy cells from free-radical damage. It specifically helps reducing the risks of cancers of the stomach and esophagus.
This vitamin is very useful in various eye problems such as cataracts. It protects the eyes against cigarette smoke and UV rays, two of the main causes that lead to cataracts.
No matter what vitamin supplements you are taking, it's always better to consult your healthcare professional for their recommended doses. Always keep in mind that improper doses of vitamins may be harmful to your body. And, rather than being beneficial, you may end up with some health ailments.
Russell Jaffe, MD, former director of the National Institutes of Health, recommends a loading dose of Vitamin C: one teaspoon of Vitamin C crystals every 15 minutes until you "flush." By this, he means a complete bowel evacuation. After the flush, he recommends a daily serving of Vitamin C (for one month) that is equivalent to 75% of the amount it took you to flush. Dr. Jaffe says that "this should really improve your terrain!"
Most pharmaceutical companies claim that all supplements are the same. I believe there is a difference between many supplements. Although I don't have all the answers, I personally prefer the Vitamin C crystals, but it's up to you to find the supplements that deliver the best results. One way to find a supplement that will meet your needs is to search Google.

22. A Hot Topic - Vitamin D
One of the hottest topics in health and nutrition today is vitamin D. The American Public Health Association (APHA) has been doing extensive research on this all important vitamin. The evidence of their research supports the fact that low vitamin D blood levels is being linked to many human diseases.
The APHA even goes as far as saying that "Vitamin D deficiency/insufficiency is recognized as a major public health concern for both children and adults in the United States."
Further research reveals that albacore tuna and wild salmon rank as "the richest known sources of vitamin D." Because of this fact, Vital Choice has developed "a high-quality, higher-potency vitamin D supplement...one with unique characteristics." [1]
Are all vitamin D supplements created equal? According to Vital Choice, their vitamin D3 supplements contain "no artificial preservatives, colors, dairy, starch, wheat, or yeast."
They are also saying that "Vitamin D3 is the preferred, natural form, proven the most effective at raising and maintaining vitamin D levels in the blood."
What is the difference between vitamin D, D3, and D2? According to the Vital Choice newsletter article entitled, NEW! Vitamin D in Wild Salmon Oil, "most studies support vitamin D3 as the most effective form for raising and maintaining vitamin D levels in the blood."
"The cheaper, more common synthetic form - called vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) - does not occur in the human body naturally, nor is it found in human diets."
"Supplement makers use vitamin D2 - created by irradiating fungi - because it costs less than vitamin D3."
TriVita's VitaCal-MagD combines vitamin D with calcium and vitamin B6 to "help you maintain the strength of your skeletal system, ensure regular cellular activity, proper cardiac function, and preserve the health of other vital body systems."
There is no claim as to the information laid out by Vital Choice's newsletter with regards to their vitamin D coming from vitamin D2 in a synthetic form, or created by irradiating fungi. However, they do state that "VitaCal-Mag D is absorbable so you can get the nutrition you need for healthier bones."
I'm not sure where all this research of vitamin D is headed, but I do know how many articles I've seen lately regarding this all important, and highly disregarded vitamin. Whether all the claims are true, or not, we'll have to wait and see.
Two facts are true, 1.) vitamin D is important to a healthy body, and 2.) the human body cannot produce vitamin D. With that said, the most logical means of receiving vitamin D is through supplementation.

23. SEO Tips
Keyword research and the selection, of such, is very important in the overall SEO process.
Whenever I meet with a potential SEO client we talked about the importance of choosing the correct keywords. After further explanation of keywords, and the affects of SEO, I'm usually able to walk away from the meeting with a signed contract.
However, on occasion, in an effort to keep my clients costs down, some decide to do their own keyword research and even handle their own page optimization. Some clients are capable of undertaking such tasks. However, I always provide some guidance, to my client, with respect to doing their keyword research.
Here are a few ideas I share with my clients that they should keep in their mind when selecting keywords:
- Brainstorm a list of keywords someone might use to find the product/service that you're offering.
- Use a keyword tool finder (http://www.wordtracker.com/) to see how many searches have been done on these keywords.
- The keyword tool will also make suggestions of related keywords to try (don't disregard all suggestions).
- Conduct searches of your selected keywords (use quotation marks around your search term for stronger results) in Google, Yahoo, and MSN to see who else is out there.
- Evaluate the popularity of the sites you discover by checking out their Google Page Rank and Alexa ranking.
- Is regional search important to your company, i.e. city and state?
- Try to keep each page of your company's web site focused on one (1) or two (2) keywords, NO more than three (3).
Choosing keywords that are attainable, yet ones that still provide a reasonable search frequency for your particular industry, is of utmost importance. The selection of your keyword phrase should be targeted to help you bring qualified traffic to your site.
Keywords are (and I'll steal a tag line from an old Ford commercial) "job one". However, there are many on-site factors that play a role in your search engine rankings.
In my opinion, and according to a some SEO experts, the most important elements of your web site, with regards to search results on Google, is the title tag. The title tag is almost always the heading Google chooses for each of its listings. With that in mind, make sure you have your keyword phrase in your title tag.
Don't disregard the Meta Description tag. It is still used, occasionally, by Google as the description which appears in the search results themselves. While this used to be a more common practice, Google tends to use it most often on sites with very limited content, or those which are flash based. This is still an important element of your web page.
With respect to the overall ranking of your site, keyword density plays the most important role; however, it is not as cut and dry as it once was. At one time there was a magic number that, when used, could almost guarantee top rankings.
Today, this is no longer the case. The ideal density varies from industry to industry, and phrase to phrase. If you want to find the density you should aim for, take the top 10 or 20 search results for your keyword phrase, and see what percentage of keywords those sites are using. I'm sure if you aim for the percentage (of keywords) that these sites are using, you'll wind up in the ballpark.
Sprinkle your keyword phrases in your content. Start as close to the top of the page as possible, and continue to use your phrase throughout the page, sticking with your optimum percentage. Do not overwhelm the search engine spiders and site visitors with a bombardment of targeted phrases, rather use them in a natural, meaningful, and strategic fashion.
Never forget synonyms! Yes, synonyms, for your target phrases, are also very effective when it comes to SEO. So make sure you use them within your body text on your site. Google uses these synonyms to tie in the overall relevance of the page for your main target phrases, which can improve your page ranking.

24. Weight Loss
Why do some people lose weight on their own, while others need the support of an easy to follow structured program? Motivation! Some overweight people are successful at losing weight on their own because they know that it can reduce the threat of heart disease. On the other hand, some overweight people may not see that as a motivating factor.
Becoming, and staying, motivated to lose weight may be easier with a structured weight loss program. Let's take a look at what you should look for in such a program.
Before joining any structured weight loss program, make sure they will teach you how to change your eating habits and lifestyle factors permanently. For example, make sure they focus in on the importance of physical activity, and how the lack of that activity has contributed to your weight gain.
Make sure that the staff made up of a variety of qualified counselors and health professionals such as nutritionists, registered dietitians, doctors, nurses, psychologists, and exercise physiologists. Before undertaking any weight loss program you want to be evaluated by a physician. It's important for them to know if you have any health problems, are currently taking any medicine, or plan on taking any medicine, or plan to lose more than 15 to 20 pounds. If your weight control plan calls for a very low-calorie diet, an exam and scheduled follow-up visits to a doctor are suggested.
The program should provide long-term strategies to deal with weight problems you may have in the future. These strategies might include things like setting up a support system and establishing a physical activity routine. After all, the reason for joining a weight loss program is to, not only lose weight, but also to keep it off.
So make sure you choose a program that teaches skills and techniques to make permanent changes in eating habits and levels of physical activity to prevent weight gain.
Many weight loss methods that rely on diet aids like drinks, prepackaged foods, or diet pills typically don't work in the long run. However, there is one weight loss system that I've found to be very effective, TriVita's Leanology™.
Leanology™ products are scientifically formulated and physician approved. They are natural nutrient based, and contain no stimulants. Leanology™ has been clinically proven for optimal, healthy weight loss. The Leanology™ system of products is convenient and easy to use!
The reason Leanology™ has been so effective is because of the three part process. This is not your "take one pill a day" claim to weight loss. It's a system! It's a process! It's a steady, slow process that gets results. Like anything worth while, weight loss takes time, a conscious effort, and motivation. It does not happen overnight!
Remember, quick weight loss methods DO NOT provide lasting results. Whether you lose weight on your own or with a group, the most important changes are long term. Furthermore, no matter how much weight you have to lose, modest goals and a slow course will increase your chances of both losing the weight and keeping it off.

25. Prescription Omega-3
I received my newsletter today from Vital Choice and was amazed to see a prescription omega-3 drug. As I continued to read the article, I found out that this "FDA approved" omega-3 drug, Lovaza® is nothing more than omega-3 fatty fish oil. [1] To my amazement, taking a prescription omega-3 fatty-fish oil drug will cost you, or your insurance company, $3360.00 per year. YIKES!
After further review of this omega-3 prescription drug, I've found information claiming that it's outrageous to spend that kind of money on fish-oil. However, some insurance companies are willing to pay the high cost of omega-3 fish oil, as a prescription, rather than support some high quality, less expensive, over-the-counter omega-3 supplements. It also seems that people don't care, as long as the insurance companies are picking up the tab.
"Lovaza® is FDA-approved for treatment of high triglycerides. But I am seeing more and more people take it for other reasons at this four-capsule-per-day dose. Regardless, this 'drug' is adding $3360 per year costs to our healthcare. A school teacher, for instance, recently commented to me that she didn't care about the costs, since her insurance (in Milwaukee county, teachers have unbelievably generous healthcare coverage) covers Lovaza. I've heard this from others: insurance covers it, so they don't care how much it costs." [2]
With all the high-quality omega-3s on the market, why did Lovaza® get approved by the FDA as a tried and true prescription drug that helps to lower triglyceride levels? According to the article in Vital Choice's newsletter, it was the deep pockets of the drug giant, GlaxoSmithKline. They were willing to pay the high price to get their "drug" approved by the FDA.
Lovaza® did not gain approval as a triglyceride-lowering drug because it is the only high-dose fish oil that would work, or the only one available to people with very high triglyceride levels.
Instead, Lovaza® gained FDA approval because only a deep-pocketed drug firm like GSK can afford the $250 million or so it takes to get through the costly process.
In fact, Lovaza's approval as a drug rests on the same kind of clinical evidence seen with non-prescription, high-dose fish oil.
Lovaza® is simply a high-potency omega-3 supplement with a specific -- hence patentable -- chemical profile, made by a big drug firm able to fund its own clinical trials.
It's the same old thing, if you have enough money you can get anything approved, or passed by the federal government.
Many of us know that our bodies have a daily need for Essential Fatty Acids (EFA). These EFAs play a key role in helping us to sustain vibrant good health. EFAs nourish the body's heart, brain, skin, glands and joints - and are critical to the hormone production process.
But there is a problem -- our bodies cannot make the EFAs internally. So these critical fats must come from outside sources. Whether these sources are received naturally, through fish, or through some sort of omega-3 supplement, the need for EFA's is important.
It's not the importance of EPA's that's in question here, rather the cost effectiveness between an over-the-counter daily supplement, versus a high priced prescription drug, that makes the same claim as all other high-quality omega-3 supplements, "lowering high triglyceride levels, and raise levels of HDL (good cholesterol) in adults."
If you're looking to naturally incorporate omega-3-fatty acids into your diet, fish is your best bet. The purest choice fish include canned sardines or mackerel, wild Alaskan salmon and sablefish, and small, troll-caught tuna.
On the other hand, if you're not a fish eater, TriVita's Omega Prime is a supplement that gives you the needed omega-3 fatty acid to maintain a healthy omega-3 balance.
Omega Prime helps meet the American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines. One daily dose of Omega Prime provides the amount of Omega-3 recommended by the AHA for healthy individuals, as well as for those who have heart disease or the risk of it.
Omega Prime can be purchased at less than one-tenth the cost of Lovaza, and can deliver the same results. As with all TriVita products, you can expect the highest quality, and they are all backed by a money-back guarantee. I wonder if perscription drug companies ever make the same claim? I guess that's NOT important, because the insurance companies are paying for it anyway.
